Celebrity Engagement Rings to Inspire Your Custom Jewelry Design
Celebrity engagement rings are a gold mine of design inspiration for custom jewelers like us here at JPratt Designs, and for our clients. And with every buzzy new ring design, we anticipate a surge in demand for similar styles.
So let’s examine some of the most famous and iconic celebrity engagement rings, starting with Taylor Swift and going all the way back to Grace Kelly. Perhaps you’ll draw some inspiration from these contemporary and historical designs. Each one shines in its own, unforgettable way.
Taylor Swift’s Old Mine Cut Diamond
For a lover of vintage with a truly unique, iconic sense of style, the old-mine style diamond on Taylor Swift’s engagement ring seems like the perfect fit. (Kudos to you, Travis Kelce!) An old mine cut was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, hence the vintage look. These are typically cut by hand and can come in a variety of shapes, though typically with a cushion-shaped and slightly squared outline. Because of its handmade nature, the cut can have some asymmetrical facets that yield a softer look than other cuts. Swift’s diamond, estimated to be between 8 and 10 carats, has a yellow gold bezel setting with more diamonds to accent the center stone.

Paris Hilton’s Emerald-Cut Engagement Ring
Paris Hilton’s emerald-cut engagement ring, given to her in 2021 by her now-husband Carter Reum, is fittingly sparkly for an heiress. It’s a three-stone design with an emerald-cut center stone and two shield cut diamonds on either side. Her husband designed it alongside the jeweler Jean Dousset, and the ring reportedly has a ring of pavé diamonds around the center stone and more pavé diamonds along the prongs and base.

Hailey Bieber’s Multi-Carat Oval Stone
Justin Bieber proposed to Hailey Baldwin (now Bieber) in 2018 with a sparkler that he custom designed. It included a large, oval-shaped diamond, estimated to be between 6 and 10 carats, set atop a gold band. In 2024, Hailey and Justin renewed their vows and opted to upgrade her bling — still an oval cut, but the final size is unknown, with some sources placing it at about 18 carats.

Meghan Markle’s 3-Stone Ring
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is known for her chic simplicity, and the engagement ring Prince Harry proposed with in 2017 mirrors her style. The three-stone ring, with a larger center diamond and two smaller ones beside, was a custom design Prince Harry made. The cushion-cut center stone has special significance: It’s conflict free and came from Botswana, a location significant in the couple’s courtship. The two smaller diamonds belonged to Harry’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Mariah Carey’s 35-Carat Emerald-Cut Diamond
When Mariah Carey got engaged to James Packer in 2016, he gave her a 35-carat diamond sparkler that is certainly fitting for the pop icon. The diamond, which is an emerald cut set in platinum, is flanked by tapered baguettes.

Amal Clooney’s Emerald-Cut Diamond Ring
When proposing to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in 2014, George Clooney took a thoughtful approach: He selected an ethically mined emerald-cut diamond that’s estimated to be about 7 carats. The stone sits on a platinum band and is flanked by smaller diamonds.

Kim Kardashian’s 15-Carat Cushion-Cut Diamond
Kanye West proposed to Kim Kardashian in 2013 with a 15-carat cushion-cut diamond designed by jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. West later gifted Kardashian with a second engagement ring, this time a 20-carat beauty, which was later stolen when she was in Paris.

Blake Lively’s Pink Diamond Ring
Lorraine Schwartz also designed the ring Ryan Reynolds gave to Blake Lively, a light pink, oval diamond set on a rose gold band. It has pavé diamonds on the band, too.

Kate Middleton’s Heirloom Sapphire and Diamond Ring
Prince William asked Kate Middleton to marry him in 2010 and proposed with a ring that once belonged to his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The inherited ring has a 12-carat blue sapphire at the center that’s surrounded by a halo of diamonds.

Beyoncé’s 18-Carat Diamond Ring
In 2007, Jay-Z proposed to Beyoncé with a (reported) 18-carat diamond ring designed by Lorraine Schwartz. The diamond appears to be an emerald-cut solitaire.

Victoria Beckham’s Many Rings
When David Beckham proposed to Victoria Beckham back in 1998, he proposed with a marquise diamond set on a yellow gold band. But, reportedly, Beckham has given his wife many more engagement rings since that initial proposal — some have counted as many as 15 — each with a distinct design.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Engagement Ring
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick became engaged in the late 1990s (no one really knows when, as the couple kept it a secret). Her ring is reportedly a cushion-cut diamond or an emerald-cut diamond set in yellow gold.

Princess Diana’s Engagement Ring
We’ve already discussed Princess Diana’s engagement ring, the one Princess Kate now wears, but it’s worth noting that she chose it for herself from a jeweler’s catalog of designs in 1981. (It wasn’t custom, as was typical for the royal family, and this was reported to cause quite an uproar.)

Grace Kelly’s Ruby and Diamond Band
Technically, actress-turned-princess Grace Kelly had two engagement rings: an eternity-band ring with rubies and diamonds and a 10-carat emerald-cut ring. Prince Rainier III of Monaco proposed with the eternity band in 1956, a piece said to have been made by Cartier. Kelly wore the second ring in the film High Society, where she plays a wealthy socialite who is preparing for her marriage. (Many were surprised that the diamond stunner wasn’t a prop; it was the real thing.)

Elizabeth Taylor’s Emerald-Cut Ring
Known for her collection of jewels (and husbands), Elizabeth Taylor had many beautiful rings to wear. But it was Mike Todd, a film producer, who proposed in 1956 with an emerald-cut 29-carat diamond. Taylor referred to the ring as her “ice skating rink.” (Later, Richard Burton gave Taylor a 33-carat Asscher-cut diamond as a gift, which is now referred to as the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond.)

Marilyn Monroe’s Eternity Band
Baseball star Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe were married in 1954, and her engagement ring, an eternity band with 36 baguette-cut diamonds set in a platinum band, was an iconic design.

Jackie Kennedy’s Toi et Moi Ring With an Emerald and Diamond
Jackie Kennedy’s engagement ring from John F. Kennedy stands out for its unique design, a toi et moi ring (French for “you and me”). Two stones are set side by side — and in this case, the design included a diamond and an emerald, both emerald cut. Jackie’s ring was made by Van Cleef & Arpels.
